The WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest is a large community event driven by the efforts of volunteers from our community. We're asking for your help. If you're interested in being part of a truly unique experience this Memorial Day weekend, we invite you to complete the short Volunteer Information Form below. Once you sign up, you'll soon receive an email invitation to one of our Volunteer Orientation meetings in mid-April.

More About Volunteering with Freedom Balloon Fest...
Volunteers are critical to every area of operations. General Volunteers provide help with information and other guest services, crowd safety, site set-up and logistics, hospitality for pilots/VIPs/sponsors, and more in dozens of different areas. This variety of needs allows just about any person, with any skills, talents or interests, to enjoy the WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest from a new perspective. General Volunteer shifts are 3-4 hours long. You'll be able to work several shifts over the weekend and still enjoy the festival!
Balloon Crew Volunteers
If you like getting up early, staying up late and are safety conscious, you may be perfect as a Balloon Crew Volunteer. Being a Balloon Crew Volunteer offers you the "hands on" volunteer experience most people think of when it comes to hot air balloon festivals. Shifts are longer and vary depending upon the needs of any given flight. You'll sweat, laugh and build memories to last a lifetime while making new friends.
If you'd like to serve as a Balloon Crew Volunteer, plan to attend at least one Balloon Safety Orientation meeting (several to be held between February and May). Knowing how to work around hot air balloons makes the experience much more rewarding for you and that training will make you very valuable to visiting pilots - especially if you know your way around town.

Supervised Youth Group Volunteer Opportunities
Youth Group Directors, Pastors, Youth Organizers, etc... - If you're a supervisor of Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Civil Air Patrol, religious, an at risk youth group, or other similar organizations focused on giving our region's youth a more well rounded life experience, the WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest would like to hear from you.
We welcome youth group volunteers as organized groups with the goal to provide a community focused, volunteer service experience with the assistance and supervision of adults already screened by their own sponsor organizations. Think of these volunteer experiences much like General Volunteer experience, but coordinated with the help of adult sponsors from your particular group.

How can you get involved? First, become a volunteer. Balloon Federation of America - The Balloon Federation of America (BFA) is a 501c3 non-profit association dedicated to the advancement of the sport and science of lighter-than-air aviation, both hot air and gas balloons. Founded in 1961, membership in the BFA is open to anyone who shares a fascination with Lighter Than Air flight.
